Dear Sisters,
The words of a Primary song continue to race inside my head.
“I see my mother kneeling with our family each day.
I hear the words she whispers as she bows her head to pray.
Her plea to the Father quiets all my fears.
And I am thankful love is spoken here.”
Isn’t it a warm feeling to picture a family in prayer, a father blessing his family through the priesthood? And while the home is the place where the language of love is born and nurtured, we as sisters and leaders have the task of spreading that love outside of our warm hearth.
How do we do it in a world that is fast and sometimes furious? I think that we already are speaking words of love, we just don’t always recognize it.
Most of the time love is spoken quietly through our deeds. We make cookies for a lonely neighbor just so he can talk. We visit with a sister even though it is the second time this month, because she needs it. One sister sat with a sick friend at the hospital to find when she came home that a meal had been prepared and delivered for her and her family.
Sometimes words of love are literally spoken. We pray for a family that has lost a loved one. We listen and give advice through the Spirit to those that feel lost and alone. And the best way to speak of love…hug a friend and whisper “Love you” in her ear. You will probably get love words back, and what is wrong with that?
Don’t worry that we may not show enough love. Those who need it most will recognize it when they hear it.
“I can often feel the Savior near
When love is spoken here.”
Love you!
